Episode 3: Parallax

Now into the series proper.  Now this episode was pretty good but it would've been better without the main story which again had a been there before vibe to it.  Probably because over the course of Star Trek there have been more time anomaly stories than Kirk's been shirtless and Picard's had hot Earl Gray teas combined.  Though the writer, Brannon Braga didn't seem to think so when he said ""I also thought it was a good time anomaly show, something we had never seen".  Huh uh, but I digress.
However the other story went some to making up for it.  At least at this early stage of the series they're making a go at the tension between the StarFleet and Maquis crews.  In this instance the focal point of which is B'Elana Torres, a half human/half Klingon.  Why do they always have to be half human?  Half Betazed/half Klingon would be good.
Essentially Chakotay wants Torres to be top dog but she can't mix with others i.e. punches people, a Klingon, who knew?  Janeway's understandably a tiny bit cautious over having her chief engineer about this and all the while the Maquis crewmembers are ready to mutiny over it (including first appearance of Seska).
I liked the Chakotay and Janeway dynamic in this episode, it wasn't a simple Captain/First Officer relationship as has been shown on other starship Treks.
The StarFleet engineer who spent the entire episode fighting with Torres somehow switches personality at the end and is quite happy to serve under her.  Where did that come from?  Oh yeagh, the end of the episode is coming up.
